Hundreds of people took the opportunity to find out more about a career in health and social care at the NHS North West London’s Health and Care Career Festival. The event took place at Hounslow House on Saturday 28 January.

The event last weekend highlighted the breadth and variety of careers available in health and care.

Attendees had the opportunity to meet and talk to a variety of different NHS organisations, who showcased the many different opportunities available.

The event provided an opportunity to show the many ways you can start a career - volunteer, start an apprenticeship, further study or on the job training.

Steven Forbes, Executive Director for children’s and adult’s services at Hounslow council said:

“Today has been a fantastic opportunity to show members of the public the array of careers available in the NHS. People don’t understand the many different options there are in the NHS – it is not just clinical. It is never too late to start a career in the NHS.”

Throughout the day there were a number of speakers talking about their experiences, how they started their careers and what is involved in their day to day jobs. Organisations such as the Prince’s Trust also talked about how they can help and provide support for those looking to start their careers.

One of the speakers on the day Deborah Lopez, project manager said:

‘I started my journey as a clerk and now I am working in HR as a project manager. Doing an apprenticeship helped me build skills and apply them in a practical way. I am now working towards a master’s degree. I think people need to consider this as an option and know that it is available. I am so happy I chose this pathway.’

The day was extremely positive and had an abundance of different conversations taking place throughout the entire event. It was also fantastic for the organisations in attendance too as they were able to network with each other, providing future opportunities to work better together.
