Let’s celebrate the work of volunteers

4 June 2024

Today is the start of Volunteers’ Week. Volunteers' Week. It’s an opportunity to celebrate the amazing contributions volunteers make to communities across the UK.

There are lots of events taking part across the country to mark their success. Furthermore, The Big Help Out event, taking place on 7 – 9 June 2024, will provide tasters to hopefully bring future volunteers on board.

It’s a great opportunity to celebrate colleagues like Charles who is undertaking a ‘meet and greet’ role at West London NHS Trust after coming to the UK in 2022. His dream is to be a successful employee in the NHS and is excited about developing new skills.

Brenda also came to the UK in 2022, and is originally from Uganda. She has a similar role to Charles but working for Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust. She is pleased to have made many new friends.

Experience can be wide-ranging. Marlen supports those who are in palliative care, and helped out with a project to help nurses find the clinical materials they needed to visit patients at home. Marlen acknowledges that there “is so much effort going on behind the scenes. He went on to say “I don’t think people outside of the NHS realise the amount of work clinical staff do to keep this big machine working.”
