Guidelines and resources

The following guidelines have been created by a group of North West London GPs and paediatricians. Click on the bars to expand.

These guidelines address the ‘top 10’ common paediatric presentations that often, due to lack of guidance, result in a secondary care referral.  It was felt that by creating easy to use guidelines, GPs can help by managing these conditions in the community where possible, improving quick access to appropriate investigations for children and increasing GP confidence in when and where to refer.

We would really value your feedback on the guidelines, each time you use them, and welcome suggestions for future guidelines that will support you and your patients. See the survey link here.

Referral Pathway for Specialist Service for Children and Young People with Gender Incongruence

From September 2024:  new referrals from Primary Care into Children and Young people’s Gender Services must be first directed to either:

  • Children and Young people’s Mental Health services; or
  • to Community or Hospital Paediatric services.

National Referral Support Services (only accept referrals from specialist services)

NHS Arden and GEM manage all referrals to NHS Children and Young People’s (CYP) Gender Services on behalf of NHS England and the CYP Gender Service Providers.
