Think about your heart health: get your blood pressure checked

29 September 2025

Today marks World Heart Day, and health leaders across north west London are calling on residents to take action to protect their hearts. With over 20,000 people diagnosed with heart failure and an estimated 120,000 living with undiagnosed heart and circulatory conditions, prevention is key.

Up to 80% of premature cardiovascular deaths are preventable through early screening, affordable care, and healthier lifestyle choices. One way of trying to stay on top of things can be keeping an eye on your blood pressure.

Dr Haidar Mohammed, Clinical Lead for Cardiovascular Disease and Renal Medicine, at NHS North West London, says: “High blood pressure often has no warning signs, yet it can quietly damage your heart, brain, and kidneys.

“A quick check at home, your pharmacy, or GP could save your life. When more of us know our numbers, we can prevent thousands of strokes and heart attacks.”
