Urgent treatment centres in NW London

22 August 2023

Urgent treatment centres (UTCs) in NW London to be run by local NHS Trusts, following a recent re-procurement.

The new contracts for NW London’s UTCs will see the GP led services brought in-house at their hospital locations, run by; Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust, The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Trust, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust.

The NHS in NW London will work to improve the services provided by UTCs through the new contracts, to make sure patients are seamlessly transferred to the teams that are best placed to support them.

This includes improving IT systems to ensure clinicians can see a patient’s full record, helping to improve clinical decision-making, patient care and outcomes.

What do urgent treatment centres do?

Urgent treatment centres (UTCs) are an alternative to A&E and can be accessed by contacting 111 on line, over the phone or walking in.
GPs running the service can diagnose and treat many common ailments, including:

·         cuts and grazes

·         minor scalds and burns

·         strains and sprains

·         bites and stings

·         minor head injuries

·         ear and throat infections

·         minor skin infections / rashes

·         minor eye conditions / infections

·         stomach pains

·         suspected fractures

The centres in NW London are open every day, locations and opening times can be found here.

Where an urgent treatment centre and an accident and emergency department are located at the same hospital, the entrance to the urgent treatment centre will be clearly signposted from the accident and emergency department. This is to make sure patients are directed by clinical staff to the right service for their medical need.

We would advise all patients to contact 111 before heading to an urgent treatment centre, to ensure that it is the right place to get help.
111 can also book you an arrival time if it is the service you need.

More information about where to go when you need help from the NHS can be found in this leaflet.
