COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by a virus. Most people who catch the virus will have mild symptoms and recover at home. However, some people - especially older adults and those who are immunosuppressed - are at risk of becoming seriously ill.
It is very important to get the COVID-19 vaccine if you're advised to.
We are currently between seasonal COVID-19 vaccination campaigns.
At the moment only a small number of people can get a vaccination on the NHS if advised by their specialist or GP that they need an extra dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. This includes:
- anyone who has had a stem cell transplant or CAR-T therapy
- people aged 6 months and over who have a new health condition that severely weakens their immune system.
If you fall into either of the above categories, speak to your GP or hospital specialist who will assess you and refer you into our out of season COVID-19 vaccination clinic as appropriate.
For the vast majority of eligible people, the next opportunity to receive a free NHS COVID-19 vaccination will be from this October.
Autumn/winter 2025
The following groups will be eligible for a free NHS COVID-19 vaccination this autumn from 1 October 2025 - 31 January 2026:
- residents in a care home for older adults
- all adults aged 75 years and over
- people aged 6 months and over who are immunosuppressed (as defined in the ‘immunosuppression’ section of tables 3 and 4 of the COVID-19 chapter of the Green Book.
You should be contacted by the NHS if you're eligible for an NHS COVID-19 vaccine this autumn/winter 2025 campaign.
You will be able to book your COVID-19 vaccination appointment using the National Booking Service from 1 September 2025. Those who are eligible can also book their flu vaccination appointment at the same time.
Please see our dedicated page: North west London vaccine sites, for details and walk-in opportunities of our COVID-19 vaccination sites across north west London. Many of the sites will also be offering the flu vaccination.
